A video Message for politicians

It was during the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe that justice caught up with deposed Romanian president Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena. On Christmas Day in 1989 this couple was given a trial of sorts, sent kicking and screaming to the hereafter, put in caskets and buried within record time.

For the arrogant politicians that suspend or otherwise take freedom, liberty or property from their fellow citizens--they need to see this couple getting their just deserts. This should happen a little more often.

Sit back and watch justice happen…

Actually they missed the best part. The firing squad is essentially every soldier who could get time off in the area and they open up with automatic weapons for what seems like an eternity. Then somebody shouts "everybody stop firing!" in Romanian of course and that's just before you see the guys checking for a pulse. As if!

This was less of a people power throwing off the shackles of a hated oppressor than a coup d'etat, however. Ion Iliescu, Ceaucescu's right hand man, saw the other communist regimes toppling and thought the best way he could keep his position was by offering up his former boss as a sacrificial lamb. And that's what happened. Even the secret police, the Securitate, started up again not long after.

Nonetheless, people everywhere can take heart at that video -- it never fails to cheer me up.

I was hoping for that scene to visit the Clintons when they were in the Whitehouse!
