Cold Case Murder Solved after 43 Years

Santa Ana, CA—47 year-old hotel manager, Christine Wariner was sexually assaulted and then beaten to death in her apartment located on hotel property.

Members of the Santa Ana Police Cold Case Squad were able to implicate 67 year-old Charles Edward Faith, Jr. through modern forensic examination methods not available in 1964. Police arrested Faith at his home on an arrest warrant. Faith would have been just 24 years old at the time of Wariner’s murder.

Wow! Wonder what the story is behind this scary looking man. If he did it and he's been free for all of these years what a horrible thing for the family of the murdered woman. Have to wonder what both stories could be..so many lives affected, interesting to find out what happened to family of the murdered woman and how the arrested man's family feels now!

KATYBAMA YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD TWO FAMILYS HURT BY A TERRIBLE CRIME. ONE FAMILY HURTING FOR SO MANY YEARS AND NOW ANOTHER BOTH FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. I KNOW THIS MAN AND HIS DAUGHTER AND GRAND CHILDREN. AS FOR THIS (scary looking man) HE HAS BEEN IN A WHEELCHAIR DUE TO A STROKE FOR SOME FIVE YEARS NOW NOT ABLE TO CARE FOR HIM SELF AT ALL, DONT GET ME WRONG THIS IS A HORRIBLE CRIME AND A MAN SHOULD PAY FOR WHAT HE DOES BUT LIKE YOU SAID KATYBAMA SO MANY LIVES AFFECTED. THE DAUGHTER AND FAMILY SERVING GOD IN THE CHURCH THE GRAND CHILDREN SERVING OUR COUNTRY OVER SEAS, AS YOU SAID IT IS THE FAMILYS MAYBE WHO ARE HURT THE MOST BY THIS KIND OF CRIME. I FEEL FOR THE WOMAN WHO LOST HER MOTHER TO THIS EVIL DEED AND HAVING TO DRAG UP ALL THAT OLD PAIN AND BY THE SAME TOKEN I PRAY IT HELPS TO KNOW THAT THE CASE IS SOLVED AND THAT JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED BUT FOR THIS NEW FAMILY WHO NOW HAS TO FEEL THE PAIN OF LOSS PRAY FOR THEM TOO. WE SHOULD ALL TAKE A LESSON TO THINK BEFORE WE ACT WE MY NEVER FEEL THE PAIN OF THE LOSS WE CAUSE BUT COUNTLESS OTHERS MAY BE AFFECTED BY OUR ACTIONS. JUST ONE MORE THING IF YOU DONT KNOW AND TRUST IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST YOU SHOULD BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU MAY BE STANDING NEXT TO IN LINE AT THE STORE, GAS STATION, SITTING ON THE BUS OR IN THE CHAIR NEXT TO YOU IN CHURCH EVERYONE HAS A PAST. YOU JUST NEVER KNOW!!

I guess revenge seems like a most basic human gratification we enjoy. The truth is that revenge, vengeance or what we call justice is a most empty event. It does not change or reduce the damage done by the offender in the slightest. We love to rationalize what we call justice by saying, “At least he won’t be able to do that to anyone else.” We really only care about what he did to our loved one or us.

There is no such thing as CLOSURE because you can never forget. Closure has become the big lie of prosecutors and victim’s rights advocates. It’s a word used to excuse our demand for revenge and justification to hate.

The truth is we never know what really happened and the forces that drive killers and their violent acts. Perhaps it’s something beyond their control. Nearly half of all the murderers get away free and are never detected. Sometimes we punish the innocent by mistake while we vent our hate.

In any event this guy does not have enough time left on this earth to make the slightest difference.

Everyone has their own way of seeing things. Actually, I can understand these points of view and to some extent, agree with them. But, what is the alternative? Should we just look the other way and excuse murderers because their families will be hurt, or because they are no longer young, etc.? I don't think so. I struggle every day with my feelings about this man. I'm sure he had a difficult life (like my mother did), and there may be some mitigating circumstances; i.e., alcohol or drugs, but that just can't excuse his conduct. He can be incapacitated just as well in prison as he can on the streets. In fact, they will give him better care than if he were free. His family may suffer, but that can't be helped. And, as for revenge, yes, I think there is that element too. I know my mother would want revenge, and it wouldn't be as nice as prison will be for him. As for me, I hope he suffers at the hands of the other prisoners, as he deserves! Revenge. Yes. Justice. Yes. Pain and hurt like ripples in water. Yes.

By the way, I am the daughter of Christine Vono-Wariner.

Since Charles Faith's arrest, I have been waiting for him to be tried in a court of law. I am prepared to attend the preliminary hearing and the actual trial. So far, the preliminary hearing has been postponed three times! I hear he is doing very well in custody. He's cleaned up, fattened up, and has had the best of health care; this will be true for the rest of his pitiful life. But, so be it. I am READY for the process to be done. I am the daughter of Christine Vono-Wariner.

This man got to go on with his own life after taking the life of a mother. Will HIS family hurt? I'm sure they will.... NEVER as much as the family of Christine. That family has had to deal with her loss for almost half a century. Her Grandchildren, and now Great grandchildren have been denied her love. So much pain for the Wariner family for far too long!! This man's family will get to see him until his dying day!! A privilege he STOLE from Christine's family!! I pray for Christine's family that JUSTICE will be served, and hearts can heal. And yes, I'm related to a Wariner.

This man, Charles Edward Faith Jr. has gotten away with murdering my grandmother. I want justice, I want him to pay for what he has done. I don't care how old and sick he is. He beat her, raped her, and stole her life. He robbed me and my family of her love. His hate and madness does affect us all for generations. He should rot in jail for what he has done to her, and the pain he caused to my family.

Hello pastor. Thank you for your post. I'm trying to help my fiance locate his long lost half siblings. He is also the son of a Charles Edward Faith, he was born in CA, and favors the "scary looking man" strongly. So, we strongly suspect that they are brothers. If you know of any way we can contact Charles' daughter, we'd be eternally grateful.
