Why Can California Campus Cops Outgun Chicago Police?

Los Angeles, CA—Believe it or not California’s gun-hating politicians learned something from a tragedy. Two suicidal gunmen armed with exotic fully automatic weapons, body armor and lots of ammunition was discovered by an LAPD officer on their way into a Bank of America branch. That officer called for help and the rest is history.

In hindsight it would have been better to simply ignore the incident because the LAPD was no match for the robbers. The price paid in causalities was horrific before the carnage was over.

LAPD’s officers had only 9MM handguns and a few .12 gauge shotguns. They were defeated by the robber’s armor. Unlike Chicago where politicians completely ran the gun dealers out-of-town the LAPD officers sought and obtained high powered weapons from a gun store.

Chicago police could never cope with anything like what happened in North Hollywood. Mayor Richard Daley and police superintendent Jody “J-Fed” Weis both know the truth but have taken no steps to remedy the situation. . Other than their self purchased duty side arms Chicago police have nothing until the Hostage Barricade boys and girls arrive.

Every police agency in California has armed and trained their officers with M-4 carbines and shotguns. Rather than carry the firearms in car trunks they are available to the officers in vehicle gun racks.

The fine men and women working patrol duties at the UCLA Police Department are far more capable of dealing with a Mumbai, India style attack then Chicago cops.

Paul,CPD did come out with a GO a few months ago so officers may private purchase their own AR15s.They have to complete a 40 hour carbine course, whether CPD is going to send you is another question.

CPD has purchased some M16A1s from the FEDS and are converting them to semi-auto//M4 configuration.Mounts still need to be installed in the cars.

"Special" folks are receiving these and some juice babies have gone to the carbine class.

I agree CPD is WAY behind the eight ball and needs to move into the nineties.

I know about that GO but I’ve seen nothing yet, promises, promises!

Thats Nice, so you can spend 1000-2000 bucks of your own cash if you are a cop to equip yourself for a gun fight...

A1's???? ok are those old A1's with like the chrome lined barrels? I mean these things probably have a ton of rounds through them. So they get them for 'cheap', then spend money to convert the thing to semi, and probably change out the furniture... They could buy NEW ones for the cost in man hours to get do all of this on OLD hardware.

The funny thing is that this is NOT going to change until after a tragedy, much like in Cali. Imagine should an India type attack happen here in Chicago...

6 men, (3) 2 man teams could cripple this city... Pre-planted and remote detonated charges on a a couple of bridges on or over I55, I94, 290 etc. These initiate the event and are detonated as the teams drive past the bridges on their way down.

Response to this is to move units toward the disasters. The teams then stay mobile, attacking police and fire responders... Then then move again (towards the loop) before the areas can be sealed...

Keep up the attack, mobile attack through chicago, take a few smaller buildings, maybe a hotel in down town.

This city couldnt handle it, and with all of us "lemmings" disarmed we wont be able to stop it should we have a chance.

I am a Chicago Police Officer. I attended our carbine class. It was easy to do. Sign onto a dept. computer. Access the application. Submit. No juice needed. Bought a Bushmaster rifle. Went through the course. Gun is registered with the city. The city issued me forty rounds of 5.56mm ammo. I bought more. Where is the gun? Why, it's in my gunsafe at home. Even when I am at work. It is there because the department has not installed locking racks in our squad cars. We have camers, many of which won't download. We have GPS, which are messing up our in-car computers(PDT's). We have PDT's, which are out-of-range for about 25% of my district. I should have known better before dishing out the cash. By the way, the carbine training course was very good. Kudos to the range personnel.

Yes,they are late Vietnam era GM Hydramatic,Harrigton&Richardson M16A1s.These were former NG guns and vary in condition. They have probably gone through various Depot level overhauls but still sound weapons.WAY better than Bushmaster("aka trashmaster).

Ahh, they are ok. But I would take a NEW bushmaster over an A1 that has been beat up for 15 or more years. I guess if they were NG weapons they probably ahve lots of armory time on them, but still.

I run a Colt AR myself. The lower receivers arent perfect milspec so you have to stick with lots of Colt parts, but it works well.

Ron,Bushmasters are ok "hobby" level ARs but realize they do not make any parts, they are another AR house of leggo. They do not do the QC that Colt and FN are required to do for Uncle and also do not use proper materials in their barrels,4140 instead of 4150 CMV.

I hear ya on the Colt lowers using the non mil-spec triggers and hammers and their pins.A Colt 6920 is WAY better than Bushy will ever be.Ive seen too many crapmaster and DPMS guns take a shit(bolt related) during carbine classes and three gun shoots.

Colt,LMT and take a look at Charles Daley Defense for out of the box.Everything else is tier 2 or less.

If your talking M4 style then look at what you should be getting:

M4 Feed Ramp Barrel Extension (USGI)

M4 Feed Ramp Flat Top Receiver

T-Marked Upper Receivers

USGI 1/7 Twist Rates

USGI 5.56 NATO Chambers

Mil-Spec 11595E - 4150 Grade Barrel Steel (CMV)

Chrome Lined Bore and Chamber

Manganese Phosphate Barrel Finish

Mil-Spec F-Marked Forged Front Sights

USGI Government Profile Barrels

HPT (High Pressure Test) Barrels

MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspected) Barrels

My agency has been carrying semi auto rifles since the 70's. We have had our own shoot outs that were not so widely publicized. It was clear 30 years ago that the 1st responder is the one who needs the capability to stop the aggressors. SWAT is fine for a barricaded suspects but active shooters and in progress robberies are dealt with by patrol.
