Kidnapping or parental coverup of their own crime?

It was around 7:00 PM outside a Big 5 Sporting Goods in Yucaipa when Rebecca Haro dialed 911 with a story ripped straight from a bad Lifetime movie. She claimed she woke up after being knocked unconscious by some faceless stranger she conveniently cannot describe. And her seven month old son Emmanuel was gone.

Cue the cavalry. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department threw everything at it. Officers, helicopters, the works. A massive manhunt for a baby that just vanished.

Rebecca had a black eye and the whole traumatized mom performance ready to go. She told police her husband, Jake and their two other kids were off at football practice while she was being a good mom, buying a mouthguard. She claimed she was in the middle of changing the baby’s diaper when, out of nowhere, she was knocked unconscious.

This is the part where the stench hits, and I am not talking about the diaper. I hope the cops bagged that thing as scientific evidence.

Here is my own ugly, but simple theory. No mystery man. No kidnapping. Just a domestic blow up. Mom gets slugged. The baby pays the ultimate price. Tossed, hidden, discarded.

Police did not buy the bedtime story either. Both parents were dragged back in for several more hours of interrogation. That does not happen to innocent parents unless the cops already smell blood. I hope every dumpster in a twenty mile radius was turned inside out.

Here is my bet. The surveillance video will roll in and shred their fairy tale. Search warrants will start flying. And before long one of the parents will suddenly remember a new version of events. Arrests are not a maybe. They are inevitable.

Because let’s be clear. The type of kidnapping Rebecca describes, a random stranger knocking you out in a parking lot and stealing your baby, basically does not exist. Not unless you are rich, famous, or sitting on a ransom jackpot. These folks were not even close.

So was it a kidnapping or a gruesome coverup by parents with blood on their hands?

You tell me.

UPDATE:  After police confronted the mother about her inconsistencies she invoked her right to remain silent under the fifth amendment.

Second Update:    This couple, Jake Haro and his first wife Vanessa Haro AKA Vanessa Avina were arrested by Hemet CA police on 10/12/18 for willful Child Cruelty.  The both entered into plea agreements.  Jake received Probation plus 180 days in jail.  Vanessa received probation plus 120 days in jail.  Jake has since violated his probation and still awaits his punishment for that and faces a lengthy prison term.

A 40 Caliber Nightmare Is Caught On Tape.

So you’re confident that that .40 caliber S&W service round will keep you safe. Maybe you’ll have second thoughts after you see this video. One hot summer night in 1994 Tempe and Mesa Arizona police were involved in a pursuit with this suspect who ran into a stranger’s apartment to hide after being shot TWICE in the chest. He was shirtless and you can see the blood pumping out of those two wounds. What’s really frightening is just how agile this fellow is as he struts to the ambulance. If he was not handcuffed and had a knife or a gun, ask yourself if he could still hurt you, your partner or a hostage? If your jurisdiction demands that officers carry either the 9MM or the .40 Caliber S&W it’s time to show this video to your bosses and lobby to have the .45 ACP round authorized. The switch may well reduce the screaming by self-appointed community activists about how many rounds police had to use on a suspect. The really talented and courageous video journalist, Karen Ke...

The origin of the feature film, COME FRIDAY…

CLick On the pictures to see full size versions. Long ago there was a young lady I had the hots for in a big way (Yes, I know that hots is not a word). She was pretty, incredibly bright, and had some real elegance about her. She had a love for children and basic kindness that you don’t often see in someone her age. I met her parents and could understand she came from a much more stable home than mine. I was raised by a single, welfare mom and suddenly found myself way out-classed. For whatever reasons things did not workout they way I had hoped. Sadly for me, we went on our separate ways. From time to time I’d run into this lady in various places where our job had taken us. Whenever this happened my heart would skip a beat or two. I left my hometown Chicago, and moved to Arizona where I founded my detective agency. As a private eye and soon a TV news producer too, my career took me to the highest profile criminal events in Arizona and throughout the country. There’s no question that ...
