Semi-Automatic or Revolver, That Is the Question

When I was a young policeman, cops carried revolvers. We did not have ballistic vests. We did not have high-capacity magazines hanging off our belts like Christmas ornaments. We had six rounds, training, nerve, and the serious expectation that every shot had better matter. The gun battle statistics in those days were clear. Most gunfights were over after two or three shots. Today, you walk into the aftermath of a shooting and the ground looks like somebody dumped a bucket of brass casings across the pavement. Shell casings everywhere. Rounds fired in every direction. A lot of noise, a lot of smoke, and sometimes very little evidence of actual marksmanship. It looks painfully obvious that we have moved from marksmanship to panic. From aimed fire to spray and pray. From controlled violence to ammunition being launched into Nowhereville with great enthusiasm and questionable results. Forgive me if I am not standing in absolute awe of today’s 9mm ammunition. Yes, modern 9mm ammunition...

LAPD Has Bad Some Advice For Those Facing Armed Robbers

Los Angeles, CA —I spend a lot of time in L.A. when I’m not in Phoenix or Chicago.   The crime rate here is climbing because of prisoner releases by California Corrections and the Obama Administration dictating the mass release of criminal aliens.  I don’t know where this is going yet.  Hopefully, I’m as prepared as I can be if a thug or thugs actually select me for victimization. The good news here is that in two separate rulings the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled the current scheme that bars people from carrying concealed weapons for simple self-defense is unconstitutional.    The current law is now unenforceable.  Some California Sheriffs already began processing thousands of new CCW permit applications because the Supreme Court settled this in McDonald vs. City of Chicago.     The Mugger, Rapist Killer Protection Act (as I call it) in California is about to die a quick death.  The reasonable expectation tha...

Emergency Medicine is Saving More Gunshot Victims than ever Before!

Aurora, CO —The Batman Massacre and the statistics everywhere demonstrate that gunshot wounds are now fatal less than 10% of the time.  The Viet Nam War and thousands of ghetto shootings have given medical providers the experience necessary to really save our lives. Gunshot wounds are puncture wounds that self-seal because of our elastic skin and tissue.   Knife wounds are far more complex because blood vessels remain wide open from the cutting.    I know this only too well from my days as an Army medical corpsman. Taking care of victims of violence is really like being a plumber.  You must quickly stop the leaks and replace the lost fluid through IV infusion.  That’s where the EMTs come in.  Once at the hospital X-Rays are taken and any wounds to the chest or abdomen must be opened and the damage repaired with quick and skillful fingers along with sutures.  Sometimes bullets can remain inside your body inflicting less trau...
