The European Union was sold as a project of trade, cooperation, and peace. What Europe received was an unelected bureaucratic empire increasingly determined to dictate immigration policy, regulate speech, override national sovereignty, and force independent nations into one obedient political mold.
Naturally, this is called “progress.” Liberty always receives a pleasant new label just before the political class confiscates it.
Socialism and communism remain fashionable among European elites despite a historical record written in prisons, firing squads, secret police files, mass graves, and millions of dead citizens. Apparently, the lesson was not that centralized power produces tyranny. The lesson was that the wrong intellectuals were in charge.
These systems cannot tolerate genuine liberty. Free speech exposes them. Due process restrains them. Private firearm ownership frightens them. An independent population is difficult to intimidate, manipulate, or rule by decree.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel helped open Europe’s borders to mass migration from countries with radically different cultures, laws, and attitudes toward women, religion, crime, and individual liberty. Germans were expected to accept the consequences, pay the bills, suppress their objections, and celebrate the entire experiment as a triumph of multiculturalism.
When ordinary citizens objected, the political establishment did not reconsider the policy. It attacked the citizens.
That is the globalist formula: impose the policy, deny the damage, smear the opposition, and criminalize dissent.
Germany should remember East Germany. It already experienced government surveillance, ideological conformity, controlled speech, and an all-powerful state that claimed to know what was best for everyone. The Berlin Wall fell, but the appetite for control apparently survived the demolition.
Now the Alternative für Deutschland, or AfD, has emerged as a major conservative and nationalist opposition party. The German left’s response has not been thoughtful debate. It has been hysteria, demonization, censorship demands, and relentless propaganda. When a political establishment treats millions of voters as enemies rather than citizens, it should not pretend to be shocked when social tension explodes.
Violence in Germany is becoming increasingly foreseeable. That is what happens when governments refuse to address legitimate public anger while portraying every objection as extremism.
Ireland and the United Kingdom are confronting their own consequences of uncontrolled migration, cultural fragmentation, rising public disorder, and governments more interested in policing criticism than correcting policy. Spain is simmering. Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary have resisted EU pressure for mass migration and have been condemned by the globalist establishment for the unforgivable offense of defending their borders.
The real battle is no longer simply left against right. It is sovereignty against centralized control, citizenship against bureaucratic rule, and liberty against a political class that believes freedom is an inconvenience.
The globalists promise security, equality, and harmony. Their invoice arrives later: your borders, your speech, your rights, your national identity, and eventually your freedom.
What a bargain.
