If you don’t have a dog, you’re cheating yourself out of the one companion on this planet who won’t stab you in the back. Nothing lifts the human spirit faster than a dog who thinks you’re a hero just for walking through the door. Look around and you’ll notice it. People with dogs tend to be calmer, happier, and a lot less wrapped around the axle.
I’m so glad hospitals, hotels, transit systems, grocery stores, and half the civilized world finally woke up and allowed dogs inside. They slap up signs about service animals being welcome, then conveniently forget to enforce anything. And guess what. Society hasn’t collapsed. No wave of dog bites. No plague. Just happier people with their four legged therapists.
Sure, having a dog means dragging yourself outside at dawn and again after dark. And if you travel, you’ll either board the dog or trust a responsible friend. The one rule is simple. Don’t leave your dog alone to rot. They’re loyal to the bone, and they deserve the same back.
There is absolutely no sane reason for shelters to be overflowing. People need dogs every bit as much as dogs need people. Animals really are one of God’s best ideas.
